The Lake House Setting
Located in the small town of North East, PA, east of Erie, we’re in a small, historical cabin and cottage neighborhood with a private beach for residents and guests only. Over the years, many of the vintage cabins have been renovated into modern beach homes.
Beach access is easy — no cliffs, no bluffs, no staircases — just a short walk 100 yards down our quiet road. We have a natural Lake Erie shoreline with where you can swim, hunt for beach glass, skip stones, sunbathe, build a campfire, roast marshmallows and hot dogs, make s’mores, and enjoy your favorite beverage while watching our fabulous sunsets. Each night is a different show. Bring your camera!
We recommend beach stone painting and driftwood crafts as a fun activity for all ages. You provide the artists. The beach provides the stones and driftwood! Check out my Pinterest boards for inspiration.
Biking
Bring your bikes… with only 12 homes on our tucked away street there is very little car traffic between the house and the beach. Older kids can ride around the neighborhood, and you can be more adventurous if you’d like. North East is gorgeous for biking and running with miles of vineyards and orchards. Local biking maps are available at Lake Country Bike shop in North East, PA.
Boats/Smallcraft/Boat Launch
Launch your kayak, paddleboard or sailboard right from the beach. Larger boats and jet skis can be launched from the North East Marina, just 1.4 miles east, and anchored off the beach so that you can come and go from the boat to the beach to the cottages as desired. Daily and temporary docking available at the North East Marina for a reasonable price. Fishing licenses and bait also available at the North East Marina.
Grape Country
In the heart of Pennsylvania’s Lake Erie Wine Country, you’ll see miles of grape vineyards and orchards. Pick-ur-own or buy freshly-picked produce at one of numerous roadside farm stands. Watch wine being made and experience wine tastings as close as 0.5 mile away — ask me to arrange a private winery tour. If you are lucky enough to visit during grape harvest in September, you’ll experience the aroma of ripened grapes on the vine as the aroma fills the town. October is peak leaf color. November is the beginning of steelhead season in the local streams.
Lake Erie & Lake Erie Tributaries Fishing
Fishermen love our close proximity to excellent walleye, perch, lake trout, bass and steelhead fishing — this is Steelhead Alley. We are situated between 16 and 20 Mile Creeks on the east side of Erie. Elk and Walnut Creeks are about a 30 to 40 minute drive and located on the west side of Erie. Looking for a Charter? Don’t pick blindly. Ask for recommendations.
The Town Of North East, PA
Town is 3 miles and offers Sander’s grocery store, CVS drug store, art galleries, children’s toy store, The Bean coffee shop, Michael’s Italian Restaurant and Pizza shop, Yori Wine Cellars, Studio M (massages), Bella Day Spa, Grape Country Market for local products and artisan products, and The Skunk & Goat Tavern. Freeport Restaurant & Tavern is 1.25 miles, Noosa Restaurant offers lake view at the North East Marina just 1.4 miles.
Summer events include weekly live Music in the Vineyards, Picnic in the Park and Farmer’s Markets, and local festivals with the granddaddy of them all — The North East Firemen’s Cherry Festival in July. Our busy season continues into Fall when the wineries are abuzz with harvesting. WineFest (last weekend of September) and Harvest Wine Fests (the first two weekends of November) are fall event weekends. Lake Erie Wine Country and North East Chamber of Commerce events occur throughout the year. Surprise your Valentine with the Wine & Chocolate Event in February. Uncorked is a fun themed wine walk in the spring. Wine & Cheese Weekend occurs in the spring as well.
When To Visit
Some guests may prefer to visit on a quieter weekend when the winemakers have more time to spend with each guest. Try winter or spring for a more personal experience. Wineries are open YEAR ROUND, with the exception of major holidays when some wineries close for one day only.
No Sales Tax On Clothing
Are you a shopper? Many people visit Erie to shop with no sales tax on clothing. How about a holiday shopping weekend here! Stay in November or December when the rates are lower and shop ’til you drop.
